FAKTEN ÜBER DELFINE
In der Adria gibt es drei Delfinarten: den Tümmler, den gestreiften Delfin und den gewöhnlichen Delfin. Der Große Tümmler ist die einzige in den Küstengebieten der nördlichen Adria regelmäßig vorkommende Walart.
Großer Tümmler
Ist eine weit verbreitete, ikonische Art und einer der am häufigsten beobachteten Delfine in Küstengewässern auf der ganzen Welt.
Großer Tümmler sind größer als gestreifte und gewöhnliche Delfine; Ihre durchschnittliche Größe in der Adria beträgt etwa drei Meter und ein Gewicht von bis zu 300 kg. Die Haut des Delfins ist auf dem Rücken dunkelgrau und an den Flanken heller. Tümmler-Delfine haben ihren Namen von ihrem unverwechselbaren, flaschenförmigen Mund, der als Podium bezeichnet wird. Die echte, funktionale Nase ist eigentlich das Blasloch auf dem Kopf.
Die durchschnittliche Lebenserwartung eines Tümmlers beträgt mehr als 40 Jahre. Frauen leben normalerweise fünf bis zehn Jahre länger als Männer, einige Frauen über 60 Jahre.
In den Gewässern um Pula liegen ihre Lebensräume hauptsächlich in der Nähe von Küstengebieten, insbesondere auf den Inseln, und sind daher starkem Druck durch menschliche Aktivitäten ausgesetzt. Die Hauptbedrohung für Große Tümmler ist die Überfischung ihrer Beute und das Vorhandensein von Fischernetzen. Diese Delfine können auch zu Interessenkonflikten mit Fischern führen, mit denen sie in direktem Wettbewerb stehen.
Es handelt sich um Zahnwale (Odontoceti), die sich von Fischen, Garnelen, Tintenfischen und Calamari ernähren und häufig am Meeresboden Beute fangen. Delphine sind opportunistisch und zeigen eine starke Anpassungsfähigkeit. Sie können Fischern auf Nahrungssuche folgen oder kooperativ mit anderen Arten zusammenarbeiten, um Beute zu fangen.
Großer Tümmler schwimmen normalerweise von 5 bis 12 km / h, können jedoch über 30 km / h springen. Die höheren Geschwindigkeiten können nur für kurze Zeit gehalten werden. Die maximale Tiefe der nördlichen Adria beträgt etwa 50 Meter, so dass die Delfine den Boden leicht erreichen können, da sie bis zu 260 Meter unter der Oberfläche schwimmen können. Große Tümmler können bis zu 15 Minuten unter Wasser bleiben, sie tauchen jedoch normalerweise nur wenige Minuten in der Nähe der Oberfläche, da sie einen schnellen Zugang zur Luft benötigen.
Sie werden oft in Grupen gesehen, in der Regel von weniger als einem Dutzend Individuen, gelegentlich aber aus bis zu 50 Individuen. Tümmler sind das ganze Jahr über regelmäßig in den Gewässern von Pula zu sehen.
Ihre Haltung gegenüber Booten kann von völliger Gleichgültigkeit bis hin zu enthusiastischer Interaktion reichen – Sie können Zeuge ihrer unglaublichen akrobatischen Fähigkeiten wie Springen (bis zu sechs Meter) sein; Spyhopping (den Kopf senkrecht aus dem Wasser heben); Durchbrechen (aus dem Wasser springen und mit lautem Spritzen landen); Bogenreiten (Schwimmen in der Welle vor dem Bogen); Schwanzklopfen (Schlagen des Schwanzes auf die Oberfläche).
Diese verspielten Säugetiere haben außer Menschen die größte Hirnmasse pro Tiergröße. Sie weisen eine hohe Intelligenz auf und senden sich auf verschiedene Weise Nachrichten aus. Delfine haben keine Stimmbänder, kommunizieren aber über Körpersprache und Pfeifen.
Jeder Delfin hat eine besondere Pfeife, die er bald nach seiner Geburt kreiert. Diese Pfeife dient der Identifikation, genau wie der Name eines Menschen. Delfine erzeugen auch hochfrequente Klicks, die als Echolokationssystem dienen. Wenn die Klickgeräusche ein Objekt im Wasser treffen, wie ein Fisch oder ein Stein, springen sie ab und kehren als Echos zum Delfin zurück. Die Echolokation informiert die Delfine über Form, Größe, Geschwindigkeit, Entfernung und Position des Objekts. Klänge und Gesten helfen dabei, andere Delphine in der Gruppe zu verfolgen und andere Delphine auf Gefahren und Nahrung in der Nähe aufmerksam zu machen.
Große Tümmler sind sehr soziale und verspielte Säugetiere; Sie bilden Freundschaften, die Jahrzehnte andauern, jagen, sich paaren und sich gegenseitig schützen. Sie leben in Spaltfusionsgesellschaften unterschiedlicher Gruppengröße, in denen Individuen ihre Assoziationen wechseln, oft täglich oder stündlich. Gruppenzusammensetzungen werden in der Regel von Geschlecht, Alter, Fortpflanzungszustand, bekannten Beziehungen und Zugehörigkeitsgeschichten bestimmt.
Erhaltungszustand
Erhaltungsstatus Großer Tümmler sind durch kroatisches Recht geschützt und in den IUCN Red Books für das Länder in der Adria-Region. Ihre Forschung und Konservierung wurde im kroatischen und europäischen Naturschutz als Priorität eingestuft.
Vor der Küste der kroatischen Insel Losinj wurde ein Delfinreservat errichtet.
Das Cres-Lošinj Delfin Reservat ist mit 526 km² das größte Meeresschutzgebiet der Adria. Es ist durch das kroatische Naturschutzgesetz als besonderes zoologisches Reservat für Tümmler geschützt.
